Walking along the ocean's shore,
I leave with my thoughts of him from before.
The waves proceed to touch my feet,
I feel the texture of the sandy beach.
Forward I go, numbly I walk,
aimlessly ahead I venture in thought.
Why did it happen, why to me?
I finally break down and hit my knees.
The water creeps up, cold and fast,
it awakens my senses, I remember my past.
The accident, the scene, the horrid aftermath.
I cry aloud in my salt water bath.
Gently the ocean pulls back from my side,
I feel the warmth of the beach waiting to be dried.
I wonder about the sand, the eagerness it feels,
The need it has to shine and glisten is surreal.
But that need comes with the reality of life's consequence,
it will only be so long before it's under the ocean drench.
I realize I too must live my life, it is time,
holding my breath and waiting for my moment to shine.
